5 Ways to Follow Up with a Business Lead (Without Feeling Pushy)


  1. Send a Quick Thank-You Message Within 24–48 hours, send a simple note:“It was great meeting you at [event name]! I enjoyed hearing about your work with [topic]. Let’s stay in touch.”

  2. Connect on LinkedIn (or Social Media) When you send a connection request, include a brief message:“Enjoyed our chat about [subject]. Looking forward to following your updates!”

  3. Share Something of Value A link to an article, event, or resource related to what you discussed shows thoughtfulness and keeps the door open for conversation.

  4. Invite Them for Coffee or a Virtual Chat Keep it low-pressure:“Would you like to grab coffee sometime and swap ideas about [shared interest]?”

  5. Add Them to Your Email List or Newsletter (With Permission) If appropriate, invite them to join your email updates to stay in touch on events, resources, or special offers. It’s a great soft follow-up that keeps your name in front of them.
